Content Guidelines

Here you can read more about the kinds of material we're happy to print for you, how big the source files you send us need to be, and how we handle color management.

What We'll Print

We're happy to print almost anything, as long as it's not illegal. This includes:

  • Photography, including adult/explicit pieces
  • Illustrated/Furry/Anime artwork, including adult/explicit pieces
  • 3D Rendered & Pixel artwork, including adult/explicit pieces

We do have a few things we definitely won't print:

  • Any image depicting underage people/characters in sexual situations
  • Any image encouraging bigotry or harassment of a protected class (so no sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.)
  • Any image with pro-Nazi or pro-fascist themes
  • Anything else that is illegal to print under US law

Before we print anything for you, we'll need to confirm you have permission to print the image, both from the original artist and from any people featured in it if it's a photo.

If you're unsure if an image meets our guidelines, feel free to contact us and we'll let you know where we stand on it. We do, of course, reserve the right to reject any image for any reason.

Source Files & Scaling

Artwork generally needs to be either a vector image (SVGs, PDFs, Postscript), or a bitmap image (JPEG, PNG, TIFF) with enough pixels - generally, 200-300 pixels per inch.

That means if you want to print an 11x17" small poster, you need a source bitmap that is at least 2,200 x 3,400 pixels, or a vector image (as they scale to any size).

If the artwork you're trying to print is smaller than this, we can try to help - image upscaling has come a long way, and we have the latest generation of machine-learning-based ("AI") upscalers available.

They work better on drawn/illustrated artwork than real-life photos, but we have a wide range of tools at our disposal, and if you have something you really want to print, we can analyze it and inform you of maximum size we think you should print it at; just contact us.

If you have pixel art you'd like to print, we can also specifically upscale it so that the pixel art is kept nice and sharp, or also apply a range of treatments to make it look more like a classic display; we're happy to chat about the options with you.

Color Management

How things look in real life, on a screen, and on paper are three different things, and one of the hardest parts of printing is accurate color management.

Our printers and computers are all accurately calibrated with a colorimeter to ensure that we keep color as accurate as possible once pictures are in our possession, but we can't guarantee that the screen you're viewing things on matches that, so things may look slightly different when printed versus what you expect.

If you're experienced with color management and send us images with color profiles, we will of course honor them and match them as closely to print as we can.

Otherwise, if you're sending us illustrated/digital artwork to print, we will slightly boost the saturation and use a relative colorimetric rendering intent so that it prints out close to how it looks when viewed on a screen. If you send us a photo, we will instead try to keep it as close to real-life as possible and use a perceptual rendering intent unless we think it would desaturate the colors too much. If you'd like a different approach, just let us know when you place your order, or contact us to discuss the options beforehand.
